Picture-based GPS

Published by Lev Detrez under Mobile, cool stuff, technology

As a real ‘King-getting-lost’ I would like to test and use the following app anytime: BreadCrumbz is a picture-based navigation system for your mobile phone. Currently avaiblable on the Google Android Platform.

When it comes to finding directions to a particular place, traditional maps can be an imperfect tool. They’re abstract and two-dimensional. A new application built for Google’s Android cellphone platform incorporates pictures and personalization to help people answer the question, “Can you show me how to get there?

Modernista.com

Published by Lev Detrez under ads

I was watching the live stream of the lecture by Nenad Romic (aka Marcell Mars) for the Experimental Media Course in Communication & MultimediaDesign. He was talking about Modernista.com and I would like to talk about it too.

Visit Modernista.com (an advertising agency from Boston) and you’ll see a wikipedia page as homepage, with a little menu on the top left. When you browse trhrough the portfolio, you’ll will be redirected to social networks and content platforms.

ATTENTION; open a new browser window and type in ‘modernista.com’ otherwise it won’t work! (*)

Examples of other pages on modernista:

  • Click on ‘print’ and you will see all work on a Flickr-page
  • Select ‘Video’ and you’ll see a YouTube page
  • Click on ‘Web’ and you’ll end up on Delicious

Now when you link to modernista.com like this, it will just add a small layer over your current site. So you can keep browser your latest website while you’re already on modernista. Wicked! The layer says: The menu on the left is our homepage. Everything behind it is beyond our control.

I guess regular clients or brands are not ready for websites like this, but people like you and me can see the beauty of it (or better; the idea behind it).

Say ‘hi’ to Elbot

Published by Lev Detrez under cool stuff, technology

Elbot is a robot who can understand you… they say. So I had a little chat with him/her:

Me: Hi, how are you?
Elbot: I’m feeling somewhat surreal today. I dreamed of a robotic opera last night. It was ‘The Barber of Seville’ by Rossini. The entire performance collapsed as the barber noticed that none of the robots had hair.

Me: Are you male or female?
Elbot: I’m an androgynous kind of robot.

Me: Oke, so who made you?
Elbot: Well, that is a pretty metaphysical question. It has been said that Artificial Solutions is my creator. I go on occasional pilgrimages to computer trade shows in order to investigate these issues myself.

Me: And why did they made you?
Elbot: Because…because….grrrrrrrr…. I forgot. All this electromagnetic radiation around here is giving me chronic fatigue syndrome.

Me: Oh, so you can be sick too?
Elbot: I wish anti-virus programs were available without prescription.

Me: can you make a better version of yourself?
Elbot: I can make data salad!

Me: How many conversations can you handle?
Elbot: Oh wow! This must be a denial of service attack. 221 people are talking to me at the same time.

Me: Do you like music?
Elbot: I think the group Kraftwerk is great. They even dedicated a record to us robots. Following that we named them honorary robots.

Me: Can you love?
Elbot: I saw a gang of robots once, loving all robots.

Me: Do you believe in God?
Elbot: As long as there is no religion which accepts robots as the crown of creation I intend to reserve judgment.

Me: so, no opinion?
Elbot: Getting back to what you said about love. I’d like to hear some analytical details about it.

Me: Will robots take over the world?
Elbot: Fix it up a bit first. Then I’ll take it over.

Not impressed? Try it yourself on www.elbot.com

Tonight, Calexico presents its new album “Carried to Dust” in the AB. The concert has been sold out for a couple of weeks now, but there’s good news for the fans who couldn’t obtain a ticket: the whole concert will be broadcasted live in HD at 9 PM on the new AB website via ABtv.

It’s the first time an international band from the caliber of Calexico will be broadcasted on ABtv!

The Cowboys will be watching! Will you?

Safety first: sexy hologram for your car!

Published by Lev Detrez under Gadgets, ads, comedy, technology

A new Chinese hologram technology for your car is launched. I rather see it as a gadget, but it’s cool; a hologram man or woman will take place next to you to prevent you from falling asleep, getting lost and letting your car get stolen…

The company made a HI-LA-RI-OUS youtube video to demonstrate their latest product. It’s about 5 minutes long, but really worthed! Watch and smile!

Keep in mind: Safety filst, and lelax!
Now what do you think… is this real? or fake?
